Ghosts & Fairies Are Not Real But What About Tooth Fairies

Sydney and Taylor are huddled together having a philosophical discussion about the "a"-xistence of ghosts and fairies.  Sydney, being the older one took the lead in the conversation.

Taylor "Do ghosts a-xist?"
Sydney "No, ghosts don't exist.  They aren't real."
Taylor "Mom do ghosts a-xist?"
Me "No Taylor, ghosts don't a-xist."
Sydney "Fairies aren't real either."
Taylor "Fairies don't a-xist???"
Me "What about tooth fairies, Sydney?"
Sydney "Except for tooth fairies.  Tooth fairies definitely exists."

Ear Anatomy vs. Taylor's Stomach

Sydney just finished up a project at school on the anatomy of the ear.  She brought home a model she made and was showing Kevin her work and her, now, extensive knowledge of the different parts and workings of the ear.  After she was done, Taylor, of course, had to chime in and said, as she pointed to her stomach "This is my stomach, not my ear canal."

Prayers In The Ear

Ok, one last post for tonight so I don't ever forget this.  We said our nightly prayers with the girls, starting with the Our Father and Hail Mary.  After we are done, normally, the girls have their own little special prayer to God.  Tonight, Taylor is extremely tired from not napping, so when it was her turn she insisted she said her special prayer already.  I asked her what she said and since she couldn't answer, she looked at me and said "I already said my prayer in my ear!".  I think she meant in her "head".

Pickles = Bagels

Tay calls bagels, pickles.
"Mama, can I have a pickle?"

Right or Left

Sydney: "Taylor, say right or left."
Taylor: "Right or left."
Sydney: "No, say right OR left."
Taylor "Right OR left!"
Sydney: "No, no no.  Taylor, say either right or left."
Taylor: "Either right or left."
Sydney gives up....

Picking Tomatoes in the Rain

Our neglected Mother's Day herb and vegetable garden has not fared so well this summer from lack of attention but it still has surprised us at times.  Today, as it rained, Taylor and I picked tomatoes and a large but strangely shaped squash.  Dinner should be interesting tonight.

God Made Momma Special

Taylor loves being fed by me even though she is more than capable of feeding herself.  I think she just likes being the baby and having momma's full attention.  Well, tonight during dinner, I decided to help her along by feeding her the last third of her dinner.  She was thrilled!!!  She said "Momma, you're the best momma ever because God made you!"  She continued, "You're the best momma because God made your eyes.  God made your hair." as Taylor touches my hair.  "God made your cheeks."  "God made your nub, nubs." Ooops!  That's my chest.  Gotta love it.

Past Tense

Although Taylor is not quite as articulate as Sydney was at this age, she can communicate fairly well in her own right.  However, one of the most difficult things for Taylor to master is the past tense.  So, for instance, this morning, she is jumping on the couch and as she comes up she said "Look, daddy, I just fly-ded."  Sweet girl, she meant, "flew".

Two Pieces are Missing

As we pull into the garage today after dropping Sydney off at school, Taylor says "I miss Sydney."  She follows it up with "Two pieces are missing.  Daddy and Sydney."

Is Santa Real?

Sydney is going on eight years old and this morning, she asked me if Santa Clause is real.  This is one of those moments in life that make you realize all too well that your little girl is growing up.

I thought maybe she learned this from one of her older friends, so I asked her why she thought that Santa may not be real.  She replied that it was quite the coincidence that Santa only comes at night when children are asleep.  And then said, "It could be that the parents buy the gifts and put them under the tree when kids are sleeping."

Wow, I am not ready for my little baby to lose the magic of Christmas.
